The island is one of the few places in Ukraine where Bufo calamita toads live.

Natterjacks, or Bufo calamita by their Latin name, live in several other northern European nations, where they also are a threatened species.

Very occasionally the common toad hybridizes with the natterjack toad ( " Bufo calamita " ) or the European green toad ( " Bufo viridis " ).

Due to shortages of places to collect water, amphibians are rare, although the common toad and the corridor toad ( " Bufo calamita " ) are still found.

Some amphibians are abundant in or near ponds and rivulets throughout the whole system, such as " Rana perezi ", " Bufo bufo ", " Bufo calamita ", " Alytes obstetricans ", " Triturus marmoratus " and " Lissotriton helveticus ", the latter also at high altitude, whether in intermittent or permanent bodies of water . " Hyla arborea " and " Salamandra salamandra " are somewhat rarer, but still having a wide distribution, especially in humid forested zones.
